合成生物学、代谢工程、天然产物化学研究兴趣：
1．利用合成生物学和代谢工程生产高附加值萜类化合物
2．萜类化合物生物合成元件和新产物的挖掘
3．合成生物学 P450 催化元件研究
主要业绩：卞光凯博士在攻读博士学位期间的工作主要集中于具有重要经济价值萜类化合物的代谢工程研究以及萜类化合物生物合成元件和新产物的挖掘。基于定向代谢工程理念，首次实现了紫杉二烯在丝状真菌中的稳定的合成。将合成生物学和代谢工程的应用范围拓展到天然产物挖掘领域，使得萜类骨架化合物及其生物合成元件的挖掘速度取得了突破性的进展，可以在很大程度上避免对已知化合物的重复挖掘。同时也使得人们对萜类合酶生物合成能力的认识提升到一个新的高度，具有广泛的应用性，将有望颠覆传统的天然产物挖掘方式。
